Several familiar scams are once again making the rounds in our area.
A woman from Scandinavia took a call this week from a person claiming they were from Alliant Energy, and they were going to shut off electricity to the woman’s home unless she paid a fictitious bill.
A man near Fremont took a call from a person claiming to be the man’s grandson, telling him he had been in an accident, and needed money for medical treatment.
And the Portage County Sheriff’s Department says they’ve received several calls from residents reporting the IRS scam…someone claiming to be from the IRS calls and says you owe overdue taxes, and they have you arrested if you don’t pay.
Fortunately, none of the people who received calls sent any money. If you get a call such as these, contact your local authorities.
