An appartment building on Waupaca’s west side suffered significant damage in a Friday night fire. Waupaca fire personnel was called to the blaze just after 9 pm by one of the tenants of the building who saw the rear deck on fire. When firefighters arrived they found flames coming from the rear of the 6-unit building, and heavy smoke coming from the rest of the structure. Crews removed part of the roof to get at the fire, which did extensive damage to one of the units. The other 5 units suffered smoke and water damage. Everyone got out o.k, and there were no injuries. Assistant Fire Chief Kim Nelson says the cause of the blaze remains undetermined. Fire crews from Iola, Scandinavia, Saxeville, and Weyauwega helped in battling the fire.
