An Ogdensburg man is facing criminal charges for failure to follow an emergency order dealing with the coronavirus. 39 year old Shaun M. Boutwell, the owner of Shaunie B’s Bar in Ogdensburg, is charged with a misdemeanor count of violating state health rules. Governor Tony Evers ordered all bars and restaurants to close by 5 p.m. this past Tuesday. The criminal complaint says the sheriff’s office received an anonymous call at 6:30 that the bar was still open with about 15 cars in the parking lot. An officer spoke to Boutwell by phone, and the complaint alleges Boutwell agreed to have everyone out within an hour. Shortly after 8:00, another call was made to the sheriff’s office, saying the bar was still open with a dozen cars in the parking lot. The complaint also says officers drove past the tavern three times between 8:45 and 11:30, and patrons were allegedly still inside the bar. Boutwell could face a 30 day jail term and up to 500 dollars in fines if convicted. His initial appearance date is set for May 19th.
