A number of fire departments worked for several hours to put out hot spots after a barn fire in central Waupaca County Friday afternoon. Crews were call to the 6600 block of Symco Road in the Town of Union, and found the barn completely engulfed in flames. There were no injuries. The barn was a total loss, but the house where the owners live was not affected. Firefighters were still on the scene around 11 pm. They said high winds and the remote location made the fire difficult to control. They used two fire engines and a ladder truck to put out the hot spots. First responders from Clintonville, Marion, Iola, Scandinavia, Ogdensburg, Weyauwega, New London, Bear Creek, and Shiocton were all on the scene.
