A barn southeast of Weyauwega was destroyed by fire Friday afternoon. Fire crews were called to the blaze at E 6184 Springer Road, east of Highway 10, just before 3 pm, and found the barn fully engulfed when they arrived. Weyauwega Fire Chief Tom Cullen says winds in excess of 20 miles per hour quickly increased the intensity of the fire. The barn was a total loss, as were trucks both inside and outside the barn. A nearby smaller shed suffered damage. Chief Cullen also says three head of cattle and some rabbits in the barn were killed. Firefighters also had to deal with a small grass fire that ignited. The DNR was called in to keep that from spreading to a large nearby swamp. Firefighters and equipment from Waupaca, Manawa, Fremont, West Bloomfield, Poy Sippi, and Saxeville assisted at the scene. Cullen says there were no injuries.
