A Bear Creek woman will soon be re-united with her money after she fell for a common phone scam Thursday. According to reports with the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, the 76 year old woman received a call, telling her that her grandson was injured in a car accident in New Jersey, and she needed to send money for his treatment. The woman sent a package containing a check for 55-hundred dollars. Later, realizing it was a likely scam, she went to authorities, who were able to track the package. Officials say U-P-S agents are intercepting the package, and she should have her money back sometime tomorrow. Again, if you get a call like this, hang up. Then call a trusted family member to make sure all is well in your family.
