A Waupaca man is free on a co-signed signature bond after being charged with the theft of an officer’s badge. 28 year old Dustin L. Bohringer is charged with identity theft and concealing stolen property in Waupaca County Court. The complaint says Bohringer’s car was pulled over by a sheriff’s deputy in Washington County in October. Following the stop Bohringer got a ride from the deputy to a convenience store. During the ride, the complaint alleges he stole the officers badge from his coat, then hid it in his car. It was found by probation and parole officers during a search of the vehicle in Waupaca. The complaint also alleges several tools commonly used in break-ins were also found during the search. If convicted, Bohringer could face up to 6 years in prison. He is due back in court December 19th.
