An area farm family has been honored for their stewarship and management of natural resources. The Brooks Farms is the 2016 recipient of Wisconsin’s Leopold Conservation Award, given out by a consortium of four different agencies…. the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, Wisconsin Land and Conservation Association, and Sand County Foundation. The farm is managed by Ron Brooks and his daughters Zoey, Sydney, Alyssa, and Kelsey. The farm uses no-till for 70 to 80 percent of its cropland, with a 10-year crop rotation between corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, and alfalfa. The farm is currently undergoing a major expansion, to go from milking 250 cows to 650. The expansion includes a manure separation system and wastewater treatment plant. The Brooks family will receive a crystal depicting Aldo Leopold, and 10,000 dollars, when accepting the award December 4th in Wisconsin Dells.
