A Manawa man is free on a 1000 dollar signature bond after being charged with shooting and killing a neighbor’s dog. 59 year old Jeffrey L. Buttles is charged with a felony count of animal mistreatment. Buttles is alleged to have used a rifle to shoot a Great Dane in his field off State Highway 22 in the Town of Little Wolf earlier this month. The criminal complaint alleges Buttles admitted to the shooting, and also told deputies he fired a handgun at another of the neighbor’s dogs that was on his property. Buttles is also alleged to have thrown the dead dog into the south branch of the Little Wolf River. If convicted, he could face up to 3 and a half years in prison, and fines up to 10-thousand dollars.
