The Waupaca School Board last night gave approval to the district’s new charter school, called “The Chain Exploration Center.” The school’s stated mission is to be a place where children explore their passions and gain a strong educational foundation through project-based learning in a collaborative community. The school will open in the fall with grades 3,4, and 5, with two additional grade levels added in 2019. In the first year, enrollment for the charter school will be capped at 54. The enrollment application period will run from February 1st to March 15th, open to residents of the Waupaca School District. More information on the enrollment process can be found on the district’s website. The board last night also took time to recognize long-time principal and athletic director Carl Eggebrecht. Eggebrecht has announced his retirement at the end of this school year, after 41 years in education, 33 of those years here in Waupaca. Eggebrecht has served at athletic director, high school principal, and his current position of middle-school principal. He was given a round of applause by those in attendance at last night’s meeting.
