An Appleton man is being held in the Waupaca County jail on a 500 dollar cash bond following a felony child abuse charge in Waupaca County Circuit Court. 34 year old Michael G. Arendt is also charged with felony bail jumping. Arendt is accused of recklessly causing harm to a child in Symco Sunday. The complaint alleges Arendt aggressively spanked a 9 year old child in front of several witnesses, and allegedly continued to strike the child inside his vehicle. The complaint quotes one witness as saying Arendt was wailing on the child. The bail jumping count stems from bond conditions on Winnebago County charges of using a computer to facilitate a sex crime, and child enticement, from 2016. If convicted, Arendt could face up to 9 and a half years in prison. He is due back in court next Tuesday.
