Two ordinances of interest to Waupaca residents get a first reading before the city’s Common Council tonight. The first would allow for All-Terrain Vehicle operation and routes in the city. The ordinance would have all city-maintained streets designated as ATV or UTV routes, with a few exceptions in the downtown area. The machines would not be allowed on north and south Main Street from Badger to Granite, on east and west Union Street from Jefferson to Washington Streets, on east and west Fulton Street from Jefferson to Washington, and north and south on Jefferson Street from Badger to Fulton. The use of ATV’s and UTV’s would be allowed during daylight hours only… from a half hour before sunrise until a half hour after sunset.
The second ordinance would prohibit smoking in all city of Waupaca parks. Parks Director Andrew Wittman says concerns have been brought forward regarding cigarette butts in the parks, and smoking around children. The smoking ban would also include all use of e-cigarettes in the parks. Wittman says if the ordinance is passed, signs would be placed in highly visible locations at each park.
Again, those ordinances get their first reading tonight, with action on them expected at the November 5th council meeting.
