It’s looking as if there will not be a managed deer hunt in the city this fall. Waupaca’s deer management ad hoc committee met last night, perhaps for the last time, since no program coordinator has stepped forward. The committee has been seeking a volunteer coordinator to handle various aspects of the managed bow hunt, such as making sure hunters pass a proficiency test, know the hunting rules, and have the proper city permit. Since no one has stepped forward, city administrator Henry Veleker wondered if the job might be handled by a city employee.
Since a managed hunt may not be possible, the committee wanted to keep the focus on public awareness…. that bow hunting is allowed in the city during the regular DNR-sanctioned season, which runs from September 16th through January 7th.
