The committee tasked with organizing a managed deer hunt in the city of Waupaca is in need of a program coordinator. The city’s Urban Deer Management Committee met Monday night, discussing aspect of the hunt such as letting hunters keep at least one deer they kill, where meat will be processed for the food pantry, setting up a proficiency test for archery hunters, and getting landowner permission for hunting 10 acre parcels or larger in the city. The one sticking point….. the program has no coordinator. The position is meant to be voluntary, but some on the committee are hoping to get some kind of stipend for whomever takes the job.
City administrator Henry Veleker says the position is voluntary, but coordinator expenses could be covered. Letters to landowners with at least 10 acres in the city will be sent out this week, asking if they’d be willing to let hunters onto their properties.
