It’ll be a different look for the Waupaca Comet girls’ hockey program this fall. The Waupaca School Board this morning approved the Comets joining the Marshfield Co-op, which includes Marshfield, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Pacelli, Assumption, Athens, and Spencer. The previous Waupaca Co-op, with Amherst and Iola-Scandinavia, has seen a drop in participants to a level that was not sustainable. The approved agreement is for one year, with a lot of details, in terms of game and practice sites, still to be determined. Waupaca Athletic Director Carl Eggebrecht says it is likely the move to the new co-op will mean the lady Comets will no longer play in the Great Northern Conference, but rather play an independent schedule. The new co-op is in the process of hiring a new coach.
