The Waupaca City Council last night gave final approval to an ordinance creating a Riverfront District for the downtown area. The ordinance allows for the combination of residential and commercial use of buildings, including first-floor living spaces, due to the proximity of the Waupaca River. The ordinance promotes useage of the backside of the buildings, which face Riverview Park. The hope is to make that area more of a destination for visitors to the city. The council last night also approved the purchase of two new squad cars for the police department. They will replace vehicles from 2011 and 2013 that have high mileage, and higher maintenance costs due to their aging condition.
