The state Department of Natural Resources has released information from a walleye poaching case this spring in Northeast Wisconsin. It involved the use of fish traps on the Shioc River, north of Shiocton, the first illegal use of fish traps the DNR has investigated in over 20 years. Two men were caught bringing those fish traps back to shore with walleyes in them. 52 year old James Shears and 41 year old David Collar, both of Shiocton, were each fined 12-hundred dollars and lost their fishing and hunting privileges for a year, to be followed by two years probation. The DNR says the case began with a call to the DNR’s Tip Line.
