Money received from donations and fundraisers is allowing the Waupaca Police Department to purchase new tactical vests and helmets for it’s officers. Interim Police Chief Brian Hoelzel says more than 20,000 dollars came in from community members and businesses, after he got approval from the police commission last month to seek donations for the upgraded equipment. Hoelzel says there is enough money to cover the cost of the more expensive vests that include ceramic plates and sides that offer even better protection for officers. Money left over after the purchases is going into an account that can only be used to purchase or replace the tactical protective gear. Hoelzel says his entire department thanks the community for its support.
