Area military veterans will get the chance to fly in a 1940’s era bi-plane tomorrow at Waupaca’s municipal airport. The Waupaca County Coalition for Caregivers organized the “dream flights” event, to allow aging veterans the chance to go up in a Boeing Stearman bi-plane, the same aircraft used to train many military aviators during the 1940’s. The flights are scheduled to last about 15 minutes. They’re being provided by the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation, a non-profit organization established to honor seniors and U.S. military veterans with the primary focus on individuals living in long-term care communities. The flights will start around 9 a.m., and the community is encouraged to come out to the airport and cheer on the veterans. Personnel from the Waupaca Fire Department will be on hand to help veterans in wheelchairs get in and out of the planes.
