The identity of the driver who struck and killed a Tri-County kindergarten student waiting for a bus has been released. Waushara County Sheriff Wally Zuehlke says the driver is 76 year old Carl Mullenix. Investigators say Mullenix was driving on the shoulder of the road when two children were hit. Sources tell WDUX that Mullenix was attempting to avoid another vehicle behind the bus when he swerved and struck the kids. The 6-year-old girl died at the scene, while her 4-year-old sister was injured. She has since been released from Wild Rose Hospital. The crash happened around 7:15 a.m. Monday morning on Highway 73 southeast of Plainfield in the town of Oasis. The stopped bus had its required lights activated at the time of the incident, but there was fog in the area at the time of the accident. Sheriff Zuehlke said due to the age of the victim, her name will not be released.
