A tavern in Shawano County was destroyed by fire Friday morning. According to the Shawano Area Fire Department, the Deer Camp Bar is a total loss. Firefighters responded just after 5 a.m. to a call of heavy smoke coming from the two-story building at County Road K and Porter Road, about 4 miles southeast of Shawano.
Fire officials say they found heavy smoke and flames upon their arrival. Both the restaurant and tavern on the first floor, and an apartment unit on the second floor were destroyed. No one was in the building when the fire started, and there were no injuries. Crews spent several hours putting out hot spots. And they brought in an excavator to tear down what remained of the building. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
