The Waupaca School District 2019-2020 budget will not include a Fund 80 tax. Waupaca City Administrator Aaron Jenson told the school board last night the city was withdrawing its request for the tax, instead asking for further dialogue between all parties involved. In August the city brought a proposal to the school finance committee, asking the district to levy a Fund 80 tax of 350-thousand dollars to help cover Park and Recreation Department expenses, including youth programs, the Senior Center, and other programs. Jenson says the city has been trying to deal with inequities in funding the youth programs for the past seven years. And, although Jenson says he thinks a Fund 80 tax is one solution, he’s not convinced its the only solution. With that being the case, the city, school board, and area towns will continue to explore possible solutions.
In a related note, the school district announced that its annual budget hearing will be Wednesday, October 30th at 5:15.
