The Waupaca School District is beginning a community fund-raising effort to help finance an upgrade to the athletic facilities at the high school. The school board this week voted unanimously to create a fund to which community businesses, organizations, and individuals can donate. The facility upgrades would include expanding the current soccer field at the high school to allow for football to be played there, putting in a synthetic turf field, and expanding the seating to allow for 2000-plus spectators. Improvements would also be made to the soccer practice field area. The project also includes selling the district’s office building on School Street, and using those proceeds to help offset the cost of setting up the administration in the high school. If the fund-raising proceeds are sufficient by late spring, the Rettler Corporation says they could have a new field installed and ready for play by next fall. The board hopes to make that determination in April.
