A groundbreaking ceremony is being held Thursday afternoon for the new athletic complex at Waupaca High School. The 2.3 million dollar project includes a new, synthetic turf field for football and soccer at the current soccer stadium, along with a new track, grandstands, and other amentities. The Waupaca School Board voted earlier this year to go with the new complex, rather than put over 700-thousand dollars of improvements into Haberkorn Field. The district is financing the project with a million dollar loan through the state Commissioners of Public Lands, along with community support that has a target of a million dollars. Pledges for donations can still be made…. you can contact district administrator Greg Nyen at 258-4121 for more information, or any of the school board members.
