The Waupaca County Hazmat team was called out Thursday afternoon following an incident involving a tractor. Waupaca County Emergency Management Director Andy Carlin says it all started when the front axle of a large tractor broke while going down Main Street in Scandinavia just before 3:45 pm. The tractor gouged a large hole in the pavement, and a 100 gallon fuel oil tank spilled, along with some oil from the tractor. Carlin says most of it was contained on the roadway, and the county’s highway personnel were called in to spread sand on the road to soak up the oil. Some did leak into the hole caused by the tractor crash. A company from the Manitowoc area was called in to pick up the tractor and haul it away, so the roadway was closed down for several hours. There were no injuries from the incident.
