A former Wisconsin Rapids woman has entered a not guilty plea to killing her boyfriend in a traffic crash as she was texting on her phone. 29 year-old Jessica Hendricks, who now lives in Milwaukee, entered the plea in Wood County Court Friday morning.
Hendricks was driving her car on Highway 173 near Port Edwards this past July, following her boyfriend, who was driving a motorcycle. The criminal complaint alleges she was reading a text when she slammed into the motorcycle killing 38 year-old Scott Carlson of Nekoosa. The complaint says Hendricks’ cell phone contained numerous text messages in the minutes leading up to the crash.
If convicted of the second degree reckless homicide charge, she could face up to 25 years in prison. No trial date has yet been set.
