A home near Northport suffered serious damage in a fire early Thursday afternoon. New London fire personnel were called to what started as a basement fire just after noon yesterday at E 8131 Weyauwega Road in the Town of Mukwa. The occupant of the home was inside trying to put out the fire, but all occupants were accounted for outside the structure when fire crews arrived. They were able to contain the fire to the basement area and the floor truss system above, but the remainder of the home did suffer extensive smoke damage. The damage estimate is around 75-thousand dollars. The New London Fire Department was assisted at the scene by personnel and equipment from Manawa, Bear Creek, Weyauwega, Shiocton, and Hortonville, as well as the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, and the Red Cross.
