Waupaca area firefighters were called out to a kitchen fire in the city last night. The fire was called in shortly before 8 pm from 813 Park Avenue. When crews arrived, they found the entire home filled with smoke, with flames above the kitchen stove. They quickly extinguished the fire, and removed cabinets above the stove and refrigerator, along with drywall and insulation. Officials say the kitchen area sustained heavy smoke damage, with the rest of the house having smoke and soot damage as well. The home did have smoke detectors, but officials say they were not sounding when they arrives. Crews were on the scene for just over an hour. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
