A Manawa man will serve a decade in prison for trying to stab a Plover Police Officer during a traffic stop in the summer of 2014. 34 year-old Brett Lieberman was sentented Friday in Portage County Circuit Court after pleading no contest to second degree recklessly endangering safety.
In August of 2014 Lieberman was pulled over for suspected drunk driving by Officer Andrew Hopfensperger. Lieberman, who’s blood alcohol concentration was .20%, got out of his vehicle and ran toward the officer, brandishing a knife. HE attempted to stab Hopfensperger multiple times before the officer drew his gun and shot Lieberman.
Along with the ten years behind bars, Lieberman will serve fice years extended supervision upon his release.
