A malfunctioning furnace in Sheridan this morning brought a call for six area fire departments to respond this morning. But fortunately for all involved, workers were able to shut down the furnace, and there was no fire. The call came in around 8 a.m. from the home about 5 miles west of Waupaca. Waupaca fire chief Jerry Dueman says it was personnel on a Canadian National train that saw thick black smoke coming from the side of the home, and called it in. But again, the furnace was shut down, and the fire call was rescinded a short time later.
