A Waupaca area man is in custody at this hour following a traffic stop that evolved into a footchase in downtown Waupaca this morning. Waupaca police pulled a vehicle driven by the 33 year old man over for operating while suspended. Police Lieutenant Geoff Johnson says once pulled over, the man bailed out of the vehicle and took off on foot. With assistance from Waupaca County Sheriff’s deputies, and a mail carrier who pointed officers in the right direction, they were able to apprehend the man on High Street near Harrison Street a short time later. Lieutenant Johnson says the man was wanted by county officers for violating terms of a temporary restraining order, and he says officers found drug paraphernalia during a search of the vehicle. The suspect remains in the Waupaca County jail.
