A Waupaca man is in custody following a shooting on the city’s northeast side last night. According to Waupaca Police, the man called 9-1-1 just before 10:45, saying he had shot his girlfriend. Authorities responding to the scene found the suspect in his vehicle. He then fled from the scene in the vehicle. Authorities were able to stop him on the eastern side of the county, where he was taken into custody after a brief stand-off. Police say a handgun was recovered near where the pursuit ended. The female was found in a Waupaca residence with a gunshot wound. She was taken by ambulance to ThedaCare– Waupaca Hospital, then airlifted to ThedaCare Hospital of Neenah. Her condition has not been released. No other details are being released. Police say their investigation into the shooting continues.
