The city of Waupaca is still trying to thin the urban deer herd, with a special, managed bow hunt going on now through the end of March. The managed hunt began in January, but the prolonged wintry weather, of bitter cold and lots of snow, have made it nearly impossible for the hunters to get out. City Street Superintendent Roger Hansen is overseeing the hunt. He says only four deer have been harvested so far. Hansen says with some warmer weather expected next week, those hunters in the program may be able to get back out.
