While most area kids head back to school next Tuesday, students in the Manawa district got a bit of a head start. Manawa started school yesterday, getting a special waiver from the state to begin before Labor Day. The early start will allow the district to finish the school year in May, and give construction crews some extra time to finish building projects before the fall of 2020. Those projects are part of the 12-million dollar referendum package approved by voters last fall. Students in Wittenberg-Birnamwood are also back in school early due to similar construction plans for next summer.
