A Manawa man is free after posting a 2000 dollar cash bond following multiple drug charges in Waupaca County Circuit Court. 71 year old John D. Chaplin faces felony counts of maintaining a drug trafficking place, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of narcotic drugs, and felon in possession of a firearm, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of illegally obtained prescriptions and drug paraphernalia. The complaint says officers executed a search warrant at Chaplin’s rural Manawa home in late July, allegedly finding 19 baggies of marijuana, hydrocodone, a drug ledger with names and phone numbers, and 9 guns. Chaplin was convicted in 1993 on charges of manufacturing and delivery of marijuana. If convicted on the latest charges, he could face over 20 years in prison. Chaplin’s next court appearance date has not yet been set.
