Two budget provisions approved by the City Council for 2016 have been vetoed by Waupaca Mayor Brian Smith. Smith made the veto announcements late Tuesday. This is the first budget for Waupaca Online. The mayor says after the discussion over the budget last Tuesday night, he feels the income was overstated for the 2016 Budget. He is requesting the City Finance Director and Internet Director prepare new figures before the next budget meeting, November 17th.
The Mayor also vetoed the budget for the city’s water utility. Smith says he disagrees with the 3% rate hike for customers of the city water utility. He says the fund balance is more than adequate to handle the budget, and if not, the general fund owes money to the water fund.
The Mayor’s vetoes may be overridden by the City Council at the next meeting. The council would need eight votes to override.
