A Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy was legally justified in a shooting incident near Scandinavia eight and a half years ago. That was the ruling earlier this month following a four day trial in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
Back in November of 2007, Waupaca County Deputy Pat McClone responded to a call of a suicidal man in a garage with a shotgun. McClone entered the garage and found Jerome Weinmann holding the gun, and an investigation done by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department concluded that Weinmann threatened the officer with the weapon. McClone then shot Weinmann four times…he survived the shooting.
Jerome and Susan Weinmann filed a federal civil suit in early 2013, disputing the findings of the investigation, and seeking $4.5 million in compensatory damages. The court recently ruled in favor of the officer, finding the shooting legally justified.
