A New London man charged in a shooting incident earlier this month now faces a felony theft charge. 19 year old Austin D. Merryfield is alleged to have stolen a 22-caliber handgun from a residence in the Town of Lebanon in late October. Authorities believe it’s the gun used in a shooting November 1st on Shawano Street in New London, when Merryfield allegedly fired from inside a van at another vehicle, striking that vehicle. The criminal complaint says authorities recently recovered the weapon from the Embarrass River in Outagamie County. The complaint alleges Merryfield threw the gun in the river following the shooting. If convicted, he faces up to 6 years in prison on the theft charge. Merryfield’s next court date is set for next Wednesday.
