A jury trial began today in Milwaukee in the stabbing death of a former Waupaca woman 15 months ago. 27 year old Emmanuel Sanchez of West Allis is charged with first degree intentional homicide in the killing of 24 year old Crystal Leopold, who was stabbed in the chest at her Milwaukee home in August 2017. Sanchez, an ex-boyfriend of Leopold’s, also faces a count of knowingly violate a domestic abuse restraining order. That restraining order was granted by a judge just two days before Leopold’s murder. The criminal complaint says a roommate of Leopold heard her screaming, and found Sanchez leaning over her body in a bathtub, with a knife in her chest. Sanchez then fled out of the building through a window. He was captured by authorities later that day. He faces life in prison if convicted.
