A former stand-out Waupaca football player is on the watchlist for college football’s top award for tight ends. 5th year senior Zander Neuville of the Badgers has been named to that list, for the John Mackey Award, as has Wisconsin’s Kyle Penniston. The Mackey Award is given annually to college football’s most outstanding tight end….. that player who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics, and community values of Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey. The winner is chosen by a selection committee of sportswriters and former players. Neuville, who had off-season knee surgery, caught 9 passes last year for Wisconsin, including two touchdowns. He’s also considered the team’s best blocking tight end. The Badgers open play this season Friday, August 31st, hosting Western Kentucky.
