A Waupaca will make an initial appearance in Waupaca County Circuit Court next week facing multiple felonies. 40 year old Ryan D. Schmoldt is charged with felony counts of take and drive a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and bail jumping, along with a misdemeanor hit and run charge. The criminal complaint alleges the van that Schmoldt was driving south on State Highway 49 in mid-December sideswiped another vehicle during a passing maneuver. Following that incident, the complaint alleges Schmoldt left that vehicle at a downtown Waupaca convenience store, and stole another vehicle from the parking lot. He was arrested a short time later in Waushara County, driving that vehicle, according to police. The two bail jumping counts stem from bond conditions on multiple drug charges from last June. If convicted on the latest charges, Schmoldt could face up to 18 years in prison. He is due in court next Tuesday.
