School taxes for Waupaca area taxpayers will be down slightly this year. The Waupaca School Board unanimously approved the district’s 2017-2018 budget last night, a budget that calls for a 19 cent drop in the tax rate, to 10 dollars and 79 cents per thousand dollars valuation. That equates to 19 dollars less on a 100-thousand dollar home. The local tax levy on the 33.3 million dollar budget is 16.2 million. The district’s state aid dollars are up by 196-thousand dollars from last year, and the district’s equalized property valuation rose 4.24 percent, to 1.5 billion dollars. And once again the district is taxing below the legal allowable revenue limit, one of only five in the state that has done that each of the past 9 years.
