The state’s Better Business Bureau is out with a statement today, reminding consumers that the online “Secret Sister” gift exchange and similar invitations are illegal and should be ignored. The campaign is back again, circulating on social media sites, especially Facebook. These type of gift exchanges are pyramid schemes, constituting illegal gambling. And if that isn’t enough, starting this gift exchange comes with a catch– you need to disclose your personal information, such as your home address. The BBB says if you receive this type of chain letter by mail, email, or social media, especially one that involves money or gifts, ignore it.
