Waupaca County Sheriff Brad Hardel is suspending his re-election campaign. The sheriff this week sent out a notification e-mail to other sheriff’s office personnel. Informed sources say Hardel is not leaving the race, and his name will remain on the ballot for the upcoming primary in August. The 3-term sheriff is being challenged by Patrol Sergeant Tim Wilz, a 23-year member of the sheriff’s department. Both are running on the Republican ticket. So far the sheriff has not returned calls seeking comment.
