The Waupaca Common Council will examine its policy on accumulated sick-leave pay-outs to retiring employees later this summer. The issue was raised by Library Director Peg Burrington at last night’s city council meeting. Currently the city pays out accumulated sick leave in a lump sum payment, and Burrington says that doesn’t take taxpayers into consideration. Burrington referred to a 70-thousand dollar pay-out to a former director of public works, and an assistant library director with 16 years of service who is leaving the city, and will get a pay-out of 30-thousand dollars. Mayor Brian Smith says the issue will be discussed by the council, likely in August.
