Three committees of the Waupaca County Board met jointly this morning, to discuss negotiating the sale or lease of Lakeview Manor and its assets. The Executive, Finance, and Lakeview Manor Committees went into closed session shortly after opening the meeting, but they did address recent news that the state is interested in Lakeview Manor. According to Madison health care attorney Maureen Molony, the former nursing home is the finalist for the Department of Veteran’s Affair’s Homeless Veteran’s Recovery Project. If approved by the county board, the former nursing home would be leased to the Department of Administration. Molony says the county is waiting for the first draft of a lease agreement. The committees also briefly addressed the statements make earlier this month by the state Department of Corrections regarding their interest in purchasing Lakeview for use as a geriatric prison. The Waupaca County Board voted in January to close the more-than-100 year old facility.
