City of Waupaca residents can expect to receive a survey included in the mailing of their December water bill, asking for input for a potential deer management plan for the city. The ad hoc committee tasked with making a recommendation to the full city council is working off a plan implemented by Wisconsin Rapids and surrounding communities in 2005. That area was dealing with an over-abundance of deer within city limits….. in the first 9 years of managed hunts using bow hunters, more than 700 deer were harvested. The 5 to 6 question survey in Waupaca will be up on the city’s web site by the end of the month, as well as being mailed out. The committee last night also voted unanimously that gun hunting would not be part of any recommendation made. The committee is hoping to have a recommendation ready for the full council in February.
