A Nekoosa woman is free on a $50,000 signature bond after being charged with reckless homicide in what authorities say is a texting and driving case. 29 year-old Jessica M. Hendricks made her initial appearance in Wood County court Monday.
She is charged with hitting and killing her roommate, 38 year-old Scott Carlson, in late July after the pair left a tavern. The complaint says Carlson was riding a motorcycle in front of Hendrick’s car when the crash occurred. The complaint alleges Hendricks told investigators she was looking at her phone just prior to the collision. And investigators say she had exchanged numerous text messages in the minutes leading up to the crash.
Hendricks faces up to ten years in prison if convicted.
