Two Waupaca residents are facing criminal charges after allegedly ramming a Waupaca Police Department squad car last month. 30 year old Rachel L. Remington and 33 year old Daniel J. Werther each face a felony count of 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, along with misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property and obsruction. The complaint says the two were pulled over in downtown Waupaca in late January due to a suspended license. Remington pulled into a diagonal stall, with police positioning a squad car behind the vehicle. The complaint alleges Remington and Werther did not comply with officers’ directive, with Remington getting back behind the wheel, and backing up into the squad car, with the two officers, and two children, in close proximity to the car. The complaint says police had to smash the driver’s side window to get Remington to stop and get out of the car. If convicted, both she and Werther could face up to 10 years in prison. Both are due in court for a preliminary hearing next Tuesday.
