Chronic wasting disease continues to show up in our mid-Wisconsin area….. the state Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection announced Friday that two deer from a hunting ranch in Waupaca County have tested positive for the disease. The positive test was first reported by state veterinarian Dr. Paul McGraw, then confirmed by a national veterinary lab in Ames, Iowa. The two and three year old bucks were part of a 40-deer herd on the 84 acre ranch. One buck was killed by a hunter, the other was euthanized due to injury. Both were then sampled, as is required under Department of Ag, Trade, and Consumer protection rules.
